AMURICA: a rant. (to be digested in bite sized portions of offensive rhetoric)

AMURICA.

so, let’s recap, for those of you just joining us:

this country has some serious personal-political issues.

no, really. partisanship can kiss my ___. but i digress. the following is aptly named:

“AMURICA: a rant. (to be digested in bite sized portions of offensive rhetoric)”

loaded statement #1:  the president is BLACK.

this is a big freaking deal. did you know that when i was in kindergarten, the closest we’d ever been to a political figure that looked like me was Martin Luther King, Jr.? and that was (at the time) nearly 30 years prior. Next to him, all i knew history to be was old white men with funny last names. so. my clear racial bias aside, i think President Obama is quite possibly the best thing to happen to this nation. not only because he is a minority seated in the highest political office in a - let’s face it - nation quickly turning culturally void, but because he has (i believe) brought an unparalleled degree of transparency to the White House. i mean really. the White House has TWITTER. there’s a statement released almost bi-weekly, and oddly opposite of the weeks i get paid, which is probably why i notice them, but i digress. the man is changing the world. or trying to. which brings me to

loaded statement #2:  republicans don’t know jack.

now maybe i feel this way because in the scheme of the two party system, i identify with the little blue donkey guy. but from what the media has allowed me to understand, and strictly excluding fox news because i refuse to recognize them as a credible news source, and also hailing, although nowadays not so proudly from the state responsible for Michele Bachmann, i think it my almost ordained duty to the children of man to give the GOP a giant ‘WTF’. the two party system is flawed, yes we know. but it seemed to function perfectly well until our favorite simpleton Bush Jr. inherited it. his two terms in office are sufficiently responsible for the scrutiny of the office of the President of the US of A, and, just like raising kids, you let the first one run free and fuck up, and you keep the second one on a baby leash. not saying the President that looks like me hasn’t been responsible for his fair share… but i AM saying that he inherited a lot of unnecessary regulation because of where his predecessor fell short. and now i’m having a hard time deciding if it really did function better before Bush was in office, or if we are just now coming to terms as a nation of our shortcomings. and if we are doing that, we’re still missing the point, because

loaded statement #3: God (or what have you) is fighting with Arizona.

…are we SERIOUSLY stereotyping people that look “illegal”? REALLY. sheesh. this coming from a nation founded on the backs of those same illegal-looking folks. if you want to tighten up on border control, fine, but make it across the board. long story short, if the visa-violator from Mexico overstayed his welcome by 6 days, and is not only paying thousands in fines, but being detained like a criminal, who’s responsible for letting visa-violator from Germany hang out in the suburbs for the past 12 years? anyone? Bueller? Bueller? choose your crackdowns wisely. you never know when you need them to work out, which will bring us to my conclusion

loaded statement #4:  Obama would like to borrow that ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner from you, Bush.

oh, my conservative brethren; i understand that we do not see eye to eye politically. that is fine. but when it comes up, i do make a point to say my piece if and when i feel people aren’t being completely unbiased. which is damn near impossible, and i’m not saying i haven’t been guilty of it. i am simply saying that Obama is not the first, liberal or conservative, to make a speech in the voice that was used on May 2nd. Bush made many of the same addresses during his 2 monumental monstrous terms, and it appeared the masses had no qualms with that, save the overly critical left wing. but what do we know, we’re just one side of a political body. at the end of the day, what i am getting to here is that Obama seems to come under a lot of scrutiny in the face of ‘success’, or whatever you call it, which i think is unfair. if there should be a moment in history for partisanship to cease to exist it should be moments like those. it was a success for the nation. a true example of the two parties beginning and ending a goal. that, if anything should be recognized. at least Obama didn’t call in a navy liner with a ‘mission accomplished’ banner dressing it’s side. which is more than i can say for the other guy.

…so i’ll bet you’re wondering what we should do. what we CAN do. well i don’t know. but there is a passage from a Kushner play, “Bright Room Called Day”, that i think serves as a sufficient call to action:

“…what makes the voice pathetic is that it doesn’t know what kind of people it’s reaching— us. no one hears it, except us. this age wanted heroes. it got us instead: carefully constructed, but immobile. subtle but, unfit to take up the burden of the times. it happens. a whole generation of washouts. history says stand up, and we totter and collapse, weeping, moved, but not sufficient.”

do your part to save the nation, and start paying attention to politics.
